Students with special needs face specific circumstances or burdens that hinder or prevent their full and effective inclusion and participation in the study process. Tutors can also play an important role in helping them overcome these challenges. It is therefore essential that tutors are familiar with the different types of special needs, the most common obstacles encountered by students with special needs, and the ways in which support can be provided.
Completion of the training is a prerequisite for performing tutoring activities.
    IMPORTANT: This
workshop is exclusively for tutors who are international students enrolled in English-taught study programmes. This session is also open to other international students. Participation in the entire training module is awarded with 0.25 ECTS credits for students of the University of Maribor.

Assistant Professor Dr. Darja Plavčak worked for several years in an adapted educational program with a lower educational standard as a school counselor and teacher, where she focused on fostering social skills among children and young people with various difficulties and disorders. She obtained her doctorate in this field, thus linking practical work with theoretical concepts of an inclusive environment. For several years, she served as an advisor for children with special needs at the National Education Institute of Slovenia (ZRSŠ), where she made an important contribution to the guidelines for developing high-quality individualized programs for children with special needs.
Currently, she shares her knowledge and experience with students of pedagogical study programs at the Faculty of Education, University of Maribor, in the course Special Education. She also teaches an elective course within the Pedagogical-Andragogical Training Program, Developing Social Skills of Pupils and Secondary School Students and Addressing Violence in the Classroom. Her work is oriented towards current issues and practical solutions that contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
